Cut wages by a third or sack half the workers? This evening looked at the dilemma facing a Chinese clothing factory and encouraged us to think about our own behaviour and the ethics of consumption today.
In 2015 a confrontational theatre show toured Great Britain. World Factory invited theatregoers to play a provocative game by imagining themselves in the role of the owner of a Chinese clothing factory. During this Thursday Night, the makers talked about the research behind this interactive theatre piece that interweaves the stories of people connected by the global fashion industry, from the factory floor to the catwalk and from London to Shanghai. The evening will closed with a debate: faced with several dilemmas, the audience was invited to discuss fashion’s impact on the environment, working conditions in clothing factories, migration and globalisation. Sophie Koers (Fair Wear Foundation) joined this debate.
