Artist Samantha Thole took her inspiration for this workshop from the themes of the exhibition Dissident Gardens: the clash between our desire to control our surroundings and our fascination with the wild, untamed forces of nature. Using clay, one of the oldest materials in human history, participants will draw on the exhibition, historical examples and their own imagination to make a ceramic sculpture, a Transformer Talisman, that expresses their primal forces.
This workshop is full.
After graduating with a Master of Fine Arts from the Sandberg Instituut, the work of Samantha Thole (1982) is focused on performance art and ceramics. Within her practice she deploys these media to represent ‘the moment’ and ‘the permanent’. Thole questions what we take for granted in our collective and personal historiography in an often intimate combination of recalling and forgetting.
