Paper
31 January 2019 20:00 - 22:00
Cutting. Sticking. Folding. In times of overriding digitisation, we start this new year without wifi, without apps and without pixels. We finally go back to the drawing board, where the handmade triumphs. The beauty of handmade paper, gsm, matt, glossy, satin, and baking paper. A paperless office is so 2018!
Vera van Wolferen
Vera van Wolferen makes wonderful worlds from simple materials such as paper, balsa wood and cardboard. As a set designer and stop-motion director, she initiates her own projects. Her latest work is 'Thought Hopper 3000', an interactive online paper camper-van. She is currently also working on an infinite universe of architectural sculptures called 'Story Objects'.
Ferry Staverman
Ferry Staverman makes three-dimensional paper sculptures from recycled cardboard reinforced with rope, repeating forms to create remarkable silhouettes. From a small table-top format up to five-metre tall sculptures, they refer to coral reefs, cacti, Chinese porcelain and oriental architectural objects.
Noa Verhofstad
The work of Noa Verhofstad exudes a feeling of nostalgia and wonder. Her work emphasises craftsmanship and handwork, with almost every essential element, whether a photograph, film, decor or installation, constructed by hand. The processes of the chosen materials - often paper and cardboard, but also wool, glass or wood - always play a decisive role.
Sophie van Boven
Sophie van Boven makes beautiful, fragile illustrations and collages with a retro look in which the handmade nature of the materials is strikingly present. She excels in what she refers to as decors: spatial installations as designs for a photograph, illustration or animation, apparently simply created from paper and cardboard.
