Jan Rothuizen - Draw Big
The artist Jan Rothuizen worked on a huge mural inside Het Nieuwe Instituut. In the workshop 'Draw Big' you can join Jan for an expedition through the institute. He will encourage you to draw and write not only about what you see but above all about what you hear, feel and think on your journey. You then record all these experiences on a huge sheet! The final result: a collective 'soft map' of Het Nieuwe Instituut. This is a workshop for anyone who loves to draw or write, as well as those who like to mess about!

Thursday Night Tutorial: Jan Rothuizen 'Draw Big'
Jan Rothuizen
Jan Rothuizen (1968) is an artist. Ideally, he wanders the streets until he discovers something striking and then draws what he hears, sees and thinks. The result is his soft maps. Each drawing reveals how Jan views and examines the world around him. His work has been exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Townhouse Gallery in Cairo and the New Museum in New York. A gigantic mural by him is currently on show at Het Nieuwe Instituut. His drawings appear monthly in the Volkskrant newspaper and have also been published in book form.
